Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 

Our EMT program is designed to build a solid foundation of skills and knowledge to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.  This program brings together the flexibility of online learning and the camaraderie of the classroom in a uniquely successful program whose graduate are well prepared to take the National Registry test for certification. This 20-week course is a hybrid-online program, affording the student the upmost in schedule flexibility coupled with superior hands-on learning sessions.  The Centre prides itself on our innovative and dynamic instruction focused on student success. Students will participate in both a virtual and actual classroom, in addition to practical lab and clinical experiences. The virtual classroom is facilitated through a learning management system located on the internet. Students must have computer access with email and internet. The virtual classroom is comprised of online activities such as discussion boards, online research, wikis and quizzes monitored by a certified educator with a master’s degree in distance learning.  The face-to-face classroom time is programmed to blend the cognitive (book work) with the psychomotor (hands-on) and affective (personal development) learning processes together in a fast-paced but fun environment full of activities and practice. Successful students are self-motivated, vested in their learning process and have a genuine interest in becoming an EMT.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

Our AEMT program continues the foundation of learning from your EMT training and brings some critical patient interventions to bridge the gap between basic life support and advanced life support.   This program brings together to flexibility of online learning and the camaraderie of the classroom in a uniquely successful program whose graduates are well prepared to take the National Registry test for certification.    This 22-week course is a hybrid-online program, affording the student the upmost in schedule flexibility coupled with superior hands-on learning sessions.  The Centre prides itself on our innovative and dynamic instruction focused on student success.  We will hone the EMT skills and marry the advanced skills through practical lab and clinical experiences.   The virtual classroom is facilitated through a learning management system located on the internet. Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic

The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is providing advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.  This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transport.  Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response.  Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment found on today’s Mobile Intensive Care units.  The Paramedic is a link from the scene or rural hospital to the entire health care system.  Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is required for enrollment. Courses are delivered in cooperation with the University of Texas Health Science Center’s Department of Emergency Health Science.
